Carphone Warehouse to close all stores permanently

Carphone Warehouse owner Dixons Group announced today that all stores will be permanently closing.

2,900 jobs will be lost in total. In south east London these stores will close:

  • Woolwich
  • Eltham
  • Charlton
  • Lewisham
  • Crayford

The company announced 40 per cent of staff may move to other roles at Currys PC World, which would still leave 2,900 without jobs, though current economic outlook ensures no certainty.

I've lived in south east London most of my life growing up in Greenwich borough and working in the area for many years. The site has contributors on occasion and we cover many different topics. Living and working in the area offers an insight into what is happening locally.

    • I am sorry for those who will lose their job, but Carphonewarehouse has been hanging by a thread for ages. They a classic example of not being across what customers want. If you want a dual sim phone that is not Samsung, good luck with that.

    • I feel for the staff that will loose their jobs and wish them every suucess in finding new employment.

I tend to get a new mobile phone by upgrading them direct with my mobile provider. Some do give good deals for loyalty when you take out a new contract with them.
