Greenwich Park to close all day Sunday due to high winds

Royal Parks have today announced they will close all eight parks they manage across London including Greenwich Park this coming Sunday.

I can’t recall a time this has happened before. High winds are forecast from the Met Office. The Royal Parks state:

“In liaison with our tree experts and Health and Safety team we have made this decision to ensure the safety of all park users including vehicle users and cyclists.

The Royal Parks are home to over 170,000 trees spread across 5,000 acres, with a significant population of ancient and veteran trees that are vulnerable to high winds.

We will be monitoring the forecast closely over the next 24 hours and if there are any changes we will communicate these via this website and twitter account @theroyalparks”

This does offer a chance of change if the forecast is revised, though currently weather warnings are in force.
