Flyover work beside Abbey Wood station sees delay

Work on the Harrow Manorway flyover in Abbey Wood which runs past the station has been delayed.

It was due to complete this year but now pushed back to 2027. The northbound bus stop has moved.

Bexley Council blame the condition of concrete while repairs are undertaken.

Areas below the flyover have been left in a dilapidated state for years since millions were spent on Crossrail-related improvement works.

Below flyover. Temporary fencing, concrete block and broken cone block path

Temporary fencing has been left for nearly a decade – often falling over or damaged – blocking paths.

That’s the first thing people arriving in Abbey Wood – or those making the short walk to Thamesmead – see upon leaving the station at the Felixstowe Road exit.

I’m surprised Peabody havn’t complained as it hardly helps them but they seem so inept at developing Thamesmead perhaps they aren’t even aware.

Cycle parking near station never opened. Now a dumping ground

Cycle park below the flyover installed years ago has also never opened for public use. Cycle lanes were built leading to the area but without these stands people have to leave bikes at open air stands which aren’t exactly safe.

It all matches the general feel of neglect from Bexley aside from just the flyover. The Greenwich side of the borough boundary is little better.

Expensive paving tarmacked over with fenced off cycle parking behind. This is the Bexley side

Of course utility companies often do a bodge job – but the local authority is little better.

The question now is whether things look any better when the flyover repairs are finished?

The Council employees, the Councillors never change for 20 years, so suggest that you don’t hold your breath
