TfL-funded Peckham road changes agreed by Southwark Council
Road changes in Peckham have been agreed by Southwark Council following earlier rounds of consultation.
Changes announced in 2025 saw restricted access on the east side of Peckham Rye Common by introducing a bus gate. Southwark stated: “The bus gate will make bus journeys quicker and create a better environment for walking and cycling.
“A northbound bus lane is also proposed between Dewar Street and Nigel Road, to operate during peak periods (7am – 10am and 3pm – 7pm).”
The final decision on changes was made late last month and published this week. Roads affected are Rye Lane, Copeland Road, Peckham Rye, Nigel Road, Philip Walk, Scylla Road and East Dulwich Road.

Changes
A document uploaded to Southwark Council’s website in recent days shows the difference between initial changes at a number of spots compared to the final plan now agreed.
It includes a “southbound cycle lane entry point modified to retain tree” on Rye Lane, bus stops moves along with other alterations.
A separate report states that “Informal consultation was carried out from September 2024 to March 2025 for changes to the highway layout to prioritise buses, cyclists and pedestrians.
“There was majority support for the scheme (49.5% ‘yes’ or ‘yes with concerns’ vs 34.9% ‘no’ out of 505 responses).”
The cost is put at £2.5 million with funds from TfL’s Local Implementation Plan funding.
