Creek Road bridge between Greenwich and Deptford closed

A key link between Greenwich and Deptford has been closed as a result of a bridge issue recently discovered.

Greenwich Council stated yesterday that “The Creek Road bridge is currently closed to road users and cyclists after an inspection uncovered an issue with the bridge mechanism.

“Diversions are in place for anyone wishing to travel using the bridge via driving, bus or cycling. Pedestrian access over the bridge will be maintained.”

Bus route 188 and 199 are on diversion with TfL noting:

“Due to a emergency bridge works, ROUTES 188 N1 are on diversion in both directions via Greenwich High Road, Deptford Bridge and Deptford Church Street.

Route 188 is on diversion

“Buses westbound are not serving stops from Greenwich Church Street ‘B’ to Macmillan Students Village ‘H’ while eastbound buses are not serving Macmillan Students Village ‘D’ to Greenwich Town Centre / Cutty Sark Stn dlr ‘A’.

As for the 199:

“199 N199 are on diversion in both directions via Greenwich High Road, Deptford Bridge and Deptford Church Street.

“Buses westbound are not serving stops from Greenwich High Road / Roan Street ‘H’ to Macmillan Students Village ‘H’ while eastbound buses are not serving Macmillan Students Village ‘D’ to Greenwich High Road / Royal Hill ‘K’.”

Closure of Creek Road during the winter

It’s not been a good year for heading this way given Creek Road saw months of closures over the winter.

That was followed by another closure in the summer.

Road closed this summer

Greenwich have not given a firm date for any works to complete, though one normally reliable source states 4th September.
