Bexleyheath pub closes for refurbishment
A popular Bexleyheath town centre pub operated by Wetherpoons is currently closed for refurbishment.
The Furze Wren is set to reopen on 11 August according to the company, though a similar refurbishment in Woolwich overrun.
It used to be a Lloyds before it had a spot of bother with some fights on site. People of my age will no doubt remember going there in the 2000s. If I recall correctly there was even buses outside to take people directly to some dodgy club in Kent.
It wasn’t great – but nightlife was so lacking in places like Abbey Wood and Woolwich it was a last resort kind of place. That or the Rat and Parrot.
Anyway after issues when it was a Lloyds, it was threatened with its licence so the company turned it into a standard Wetherspoons
Wetherspoon has two pubs in the town with a smaller site they were looking to leave in recent years, though as of yet its still open. The Wrong ‘Un is smaller and more traditional in feel than the sprawling foremr Lloyds site.
As for the company more widely they’ve been struggling somewhat and this week issued its fourth profit warning in seven months.
