Limehouse station to see part-closure for improvement work this summer

Limehouse station will see works this summer to replace and extend platforms.

Platform 2 in the Essex-bound direction will close between Monday 22 June to Monday 6 July impacting c2c passengers. Interchange with the DLR will also not be possible via Platform 2.

c2c’s Asset & Property Director, Donna Thorpe, said: “Over the coming months, we will be working with our partners at Aureos to fully replace the existing timber platform decking on platforms 1 and 2 at Limehouse station.

Changes on the way

“These works include the extension of Platform 1 by approximately 28 metres, providing additional capacity and creating a safer and more comfortable waiting environment for customers.

“In addition to the platform re-decking works, we will also be renewing and upgrading the existing platform lighting.”

Timber replaced

The existing timber platforms will be replaced with a modern Glass Reinforced Plastic (GRP) composite decking system, which will enhance the durability and resilience of the station infrastructure.

Donna added: “We fully appreciate the inconvenience that these phased platform closures may cause some customers over the coming months, and we would like to thank them for their patience and understanding while these essential improvement works are carried out.

“We are working closely with our partners to minimise disruption wherever possible, and to ensure suitable alternative travel arrangements are available throughout the programme of works.”

Work will continue until November on platform changes.

  • Do you think that platform 2 at Limehouse could have lifts to access the station much easier and accessible. And Network Rail to replace ageing 1950s overhead wires from Fenchurch Street to Barking with brand new overhead wires.

  • It’s good to see Limehouse station getting the refurbishment it needs. Will it include lifts so that people use the DLR to get to platform 2 and to have lifts installed at platform 2 for disabled passengers.

Be nice to see some improvements to Limehouse including a new lift to access platform 2 (Southend bound) when coming from the DLR (from Shadwell, Canary Wharf and Poplar) and the station.
