Next stage of Greenwich Millennium Village to begin this year

An application has been made for the next plot at Greenwich’s Millennium Village.

Yep, it’s still slowly trundling along more than a quarter of a century after work begun. This is plot 402 beside two others currently under construction at plot 401 and 403.

Plots 401 and 403 are set to complete by spring 2026 and includes 203 flats.

Upcoming Plot 402 has seen a Construction Logistics Management plan drawn up for six storey blocks which totals 78 homes.

Timescales given are:

  • Start on Site (Site Preparation) – 1st November 2025
  • Start on Site (Construction) – 1st December 2025
  • Overall Completion – November 2027

Further GMV stages will be built to the east as part of the overall masterplan along Bugsby’s Way and Peartree Way.

Crossing over Peartree Way either side of the roundabout when heading towards shops in Charlton remains iffy with a poor crossings and limited visibility. Par for the course with street design around the peninsula.

Across the road from GMV sits B&Q where plans for housing have recently been approved.

More than 1,250 homes are on the way with B&Q set for demolition. It’s another development which saw Greenwich planners showed apparently zero knowledge of the area.

As occurred with GMV, improving links on foot to east Greenwich and Charlton in order to reach the many shops, public services, bus routes and railway stations seemed not to have been considered to any real degree. Instead most will only head to North Greenwich apparently.

Hence they ignored again a chance to use Section 106 revenue to install improved pedestrian crossings and safer ways to walk to nearby areas around the roundabout just east.

A problem of ignoring street improvements for thousands of new and existing residents is also seen with current consultation on Silvertown tunnel mitigation measures where penny change is set to be spent, in contrast to areas north of the river where more than £26 million is being invested from Newham Council and TfL.

  • The new homes are welcome has always. However, as well as major infrastructure improvements including to GP Surgeries, schools, nurseries and public transport improvements.
We need to see some major money invested to improve public realm, road crossing and areas to walk and cycle which are safe clean tidy and well lit.
Getting to the stores on Bugsby Way or to the local railway station is really difficult from some of the residents living in the new homes due to having to cross busy roads with speeding traffic. Which is not a safe and pleasant experience for anyone.
