Bexley council to install three new pedestrian crossings

Bexley Council are to install three zebra crossings in the borough with a further two recently completed.

A report before a Bexley council transport meeting tonight lists forthcoming crossings at:

  • Bexley Road
  • Brook Street
  • Slade Green Road

In addition two have been installed at:

  • Hurst Road
  • Bedonwell Road
New crossing locations

Projects appear centres around primary schools.

The location of Bexley Road’s crossing appears to be outside St Fidelis primary school on bus routes 89 and 229.

The Brooke Street crossing will be near Northumberland Heath primary school.

In contrast a public realm upgrade for Townley Road in Erith has been postponed, while another at Walnut Tree Road in Erith near the college and station is underway.

  • All zebras as well. What a treat for the people of Bexley!

  • Unfortunately I fear this doesn’t bode well for the lollipop ladies who currently help children across the road at these sites.

Bexley will say they’re not needed once the zebra stripes are laid

  • Too close to the existing crossing at the junction with Carlton Rd and Park Crescent.
Could prove to be more of a collision risk than with no crossing as pedestrians will think of it as their priority! In the event that motorists have already been waiting at the nearby crossing they will be less likely to want to stop at yet another crossing point only a few yards away. Please get your heads screwed on the right way Bexley!!
