Greenwich still not bothering to update website on foot tunnel lift status
Ongoing problems with lifts at the Greenwich foot tunnel are once again not being helped by Greenwich Council again failing to updating a website showing the status of lifts.
At the time of writing (17 June) there’s been no update for eight days, despite Cutty Sark DLR station now being closed and some being recommended to get off at Island Gardens and walk below the river.
It’s not a bad walk as it goes, unless the lifts are out. Then the disabled, cyclists, parents with buggies etc will struggle.
Greenwich really are quite an odd authority. They’ll happily send seemingly endless money to Greenwich town centre via grants and section 106 to the detriment of other, more deprived areas but then never do the basics.

One recent example is more money allocated to Cutty Sark Gardens with fancy new lighting to be installed on the foot tunnel.
Why? Because the last new lighting installed as part of the last big upgrade saw them never bothering to maintain it and they all broke and weren’t fixed. But never fear, the poorer areas can miss out again as they send more money over.
See also now what should be an easy job of updating the website daily. No can do it would seem.
All talk, no action
And it’s yet another issue that shows up their endless reports on being green, carbon reduction et al is a sham. If they stood for something – rather than seeing consultants get a few quid for every report drawn up – they’d act to make walking and cycling appealing.

Even the basics would be nice. Then again this is the council that’s just slipped out a report showing a massive increase on fees for car clubs coming this July despite recently being held up as a green alternative to individual car ownership. Until they want a few quid.
And where’s that money going? Not on improving walking and cycling links or basic things like updating a website.

Greenwich Council are well known for poor communications with in the Council and with members of the public. Emails go unanswered, street reports etc completed online are not actioned for months.
So I am.not at all surprised they are not updating their websites.. which is not acceptable as we pay for these services through our council tax and taxes.
However that said. it is important members of the public kept updated as to what is happening with the Greenwich Foot Tunnel and other issues around the Borough.
No need to update the website, we know the North lift is broken, for the last 2 weeks now
Pierre – It hasn’t always been updated immediately when changes have occurred previously – eg broken with the site no updated or fixed and not updated.
