Woolwich public realm upgrade heads north along Beresford Street
A £21 million project to upgrade various parts of Woolwich town centre is nearing the end with work moving to the last stages.
A section of the town centre is seeing new paving and landscaping installed along Beresford Street.

The bus stop is closed as new paving goes in whilst holes are dug along the street in advance of Transport for London’s cycle lane plan.
The wider project is mostly funded by the last government’s “Future High Streets” project which covered numerous areas across the country. Not to be confused with their “levelling-up” project which is behind Lewisham’s upgrade.

The above shot show new student housing rising to the right while straight ahead are six towers built by Berkeley Homes.
Between those and the Premier Inn will be 660 homes in another Berkeley development.
On the left housing is proposed on the former Woolwich Poly school site where 918 student rooms and 409 co-living rooms are planned.

Presumably the cycle lane will snake around an island bus stop though it looks tight between the raised planter and shelter.
TfL images suggest so but renders feature none of the reworked public realm.

In addition the building seen on the right above which is home to Poundstretcher has recently been sold in advance of development.
Packaged Living and Buccleuch purchased the site and intend to build a co-living development comprising of 150 rooms.
And finally the market pavilion is looking great and just about finished externally.

Note in the above photo those temporary cabins on the right with the RAR logo will eventually be removed and a view down to the Thames should be opened up.
