Woolwich Beresford Square upgrade looking ever closer to completion

A major project to change the face of Beresford Square in Woolwich has taken another step towards completion with planting now in place.

A substantial part of the square long home to Woolwich market will see greenery under the plana alongside new lighting and seats.

One nice touch is a cattle trough installed within the area. A water feature has also been installed close the Royal Arsenal Gatehouse.

Work is now underway around and within Gatehouse as covered in recent days while a pub revamp facing the area is also in full swing.

It’s an area of substantial change with other projects in the area including a new market pavilion and cafe now rising alongside a 299-room student block.

In future market traders will be located along one edge of the square in front of Poundstretcher.

Last week the sale of that building continuing the shop was announced with a redevelopment plan for 150 c0-living units.

Work on the square, pavilion, cafe and Powis Street’s public realm changes are due to complete by summer this year.

  • I hope Breseford Square will be well maintained and cleaned regularly so we do see rubbish dumped in the planters and left all over the pavement.
Sadly other public realms improvements have sadly been neglected after a few months and not maintained.

  • I agree Breseford Square needs to be very well maintained and cleaned by tbe Council on a regular basis so rubbish is not dumped in the planters or left all over the pavement.
