Elizabeth line to run overnight services for New Year celebrations

The Elizabeth line will be running all-night tonight as we welcome in 2024.

Trains will operate every 15 minutes on the Canary Wharf branch to Abbey Wood.

The line west to Reading and Hayes and Harlington will also be running but with no trains to Heathrow, while in the east trains will run to Shenfield.

Docklands Light Railway

Lewisham DLR station

The DLR will also be running overnight with trains every 15 minutes across the network.

The tube will see all-night trains too across almost every line with the exception of the Waterloo & City line and the District line branch to Kensington Olympia.

London Overground will be running between Highbury & Islington and Crystal Palace/West Croydon via stations in south east London.

National Rail

Things aren’t so good on Thameslink where no services at all will operate due to staff shortages.

Thameslink will not operate any trains anywhere during the early hours

Even during today there will be a severely curtailed service all afternoon.

Southeastern however are running services every 30 minutes on Dartford lines until the last trains leaving central London between 2am and 3am.

I've lived in south east London most of my life growing up in Greenwich borough and working in the area for many years. The site has contributors on occasion and we cover many different topics. Living and working in the area offers an insight into what is happening locally.

  • Wow the Liz line has the potential to open London night life up to the masses if it went 24hr on Fridays and Saturdays in the future!

    • The Liz line would make a fortune for TFL if they ran it 24/7 and charged peak fares between midnight and 5am

It’d also open up huge new markets for retail, hospitality, culture and entertainment

      • Agreed I just don’t understand why the Elizabeth line operates a late starting Saturday/Sunday service.
For example on Sundays from Abbey wood the first direct train to Heathrow doesn’t depart time after 730am getting into Heathrow around 0835pm. Realistically if you were travelling you would have to see alternatives routes if your flight departed prior to 1030. It’s not good enough considering there are flights departing as early as 6am from Heathrow. There are over 100 flights that depart Heathrow prior to 1030 on Sundays. Yes you have the Piccadilly night service but that does not serve the south east. They really missed something here and there will be some lame excuse why they can’t do it. Therefore people in the south east have no alternative but to use cars/taxis. So much for going green.
