New Greenwich ‘spoons opens – and prices are high

A new Wetherspoon pub has opened today in Greenwich at the o2.

And as expected, prices at The Stargazer someway above most of the pub’s branches including down the road in Greenwich town centre.

Given the captive audience of those at the o2 attending gigs it was always the case that the £3m pub would be be pricey compared to most of the company’s pubs.

Limited choices and chain dominated

A pint of Doom Bar for example costs £4.39 compared to £2.57 in Greenwich.

A pint of San Miguel is £5.85 versus £3.82 in Greenwich.

Fancy a whisky post gig? A single Jameson and coke is £5.79 against £3.75 in Greenwich.

Now of course even these higher prices are still less than most places. And at the o2 there is an outside terrace allowing you to look out across the Thames.

The pub is open 10am until 12.15am Monday to Sunday. Pretty early closing but this is London in 2023, where a village pub often closes later than many venues.

I've lived in south east London most of my life growing up in Greenwich borough and working in the area for many years. The site has contributors on occasion and we cover many different topics. Living and working in the area offers an insight into what is happening locally.
