Pizza Express in trouble – what fate for the new Eltham branch?

It’s reported today that Pizza Express are in financial difficulties and seeking to meet creditors to discuss future steps.

The Chinese-owned company has a whopping debt of £1.1 billion (as of 2018) and made a loss last year.

In recent months they opened a branch in Eltham as part of the new Vue cinema alongside Nandos.

All three are apparently trading well so if any store closures are coming it may avoid that fate – or hopefully another company will take on the site if it does shut.

The chain also have branches in Greenwich, Blackheath, Sidcup and Bexleyheath. The Greenwich branch has recently seen competition from Franco Manca which opened in the town centre.

I've lived in south east London most of my life growing up in Greenwich borough and working in the area for many years. The site has contributors on occasion and we cover many different topics. Living and working in the area offers an insight into what is happening locally.

  • On the opposite, some local entrepreneurs find still motivation. In Charlton it was recently launched a new Italian pizza restaurant at Charlton House . It is open only Friday to Sundays and has already become a great addition to the area and it is child friendly too.
