A police officer has suffered a broken hand attempting to arrest a shoplifter on Deptford High Street.

The suspect  was followed on CCTV to the High Street where a West Greenwich PC attempted to apprehend the man along with response team officers. In the struggle one officer suffered the injury.

The suspect was arrested and is now in custody.

Poor sod, the job is dangerous enough without thugs trying to maim or wound them. A speedy recovery and support for the injured officer

There were a group of 4 or so teenagers shoplifting at coop by deptford bridge in the weekend. Whilst the staff were told, no action was taken. Reading this it was probably best not to confront them… Hopefully they were caught on CCTV…
