Another attempt to open Greenwich pub beside Thames as plans revised

New plans are in to open a pub on the former Frankie & Benny’s unit in Greenwich.

Previous applications dating back to 2022 have been rejected due to issues around signage.

Now new plans are in which cover raised lettering signage, hanging and projecting signboards, and a projecting hanging ship model display.

The ship model is a new idea not previously featured.

Proposed Greenwich pub

Other changes are “raised lettering signage are now proposed to be reduced in size and with the main signage positioned on first floor level. This further ensures that the raised lettering signage does not dominate the host building.”

The venture is from the same operator as the Trafalgar Tavern a short distance east along the river.

The pub is within a modern structure near the Cutty Sark and on what was once the Ship Tavern which was demolished in a World War II air raid. A history of that pub can be seen here

  • Goodness me. Getting this building back into use has been painful. Hopefully things can progress with this new application. Thanks for the report.

  • They allow these ugly buildings to be built in one of the most historic sites in London, then object to the signage (!) on them, but seem ok if they stay empty and get increasingly derelict.

Can someone explain the thinking of Greenwich Council to me..?
