Former Deptford pub sees shop conversion plan
A planning application has been made to convert the former Lord Palmerston pub in Deptford into a shop.
The pub closed in 2013 and located on Childers Street at its corner with Arklow Road.
The area has changed substantially in recent years with new housing on the area including Deptford Foundry.
Initially the applicant sought a hot food takeaway though Lewisham objected in pre-application discussions:
The Council also raised concerns about the inclusion of a hot food takeaway within the proposal, noting that its location within a 400m exclusion zone surrounding local schools rendered it non-compliant” with the London Plan.
The takeaway plan has now gone with a convenience store proposed for both the ground floor and former pub basement. Documents can be viewed here.
Sad to see another pub closed and the building stood empty for several yesrs. Might be a good location for a Sainsburys Local, Tesco Express, Asda Convenience Store, Morriston Convenience Stote, CO-OP or other Convenience stores link Londis Nissa, or Cost Cutters for example to open on the site to serve the many new residents who have moved in to the new homes in the area.
We do need to see amenities including neq shops GP Surgeries etc where new homes are being built.
I agree I now shop local and often by what I need for the day or next couple of days. I have cut down on food waste and save money too. So there is a place for more shops like this on new developments and when bringing old disused buildings back in to use.
There are also convenient to pop in to on your way home from work
I think whoever opens a shop here can have a very successful business.
