Fire reported at Thamesmead housing block

A fire has broken out on Yarnton Way in Thamesmead tonight.

A large emergency services response is reported, with the fire believed to be in a block near the Health Centre at the former Tavy Bridge.

UPDATE: It would appear to be on the third floor of a 1970s block which has been refitted from concrete cladding to white render over the past decade. The fire did not spread as seen elsewhere during fires with flammable ACM cladding. Firefighters appear to have extinguished the blaze with numerous fire engines in the area.

The exterior facade is heavily stained and interior damage is unknown.

People have been evacuated from the block. Given it’s very cold evening, it may be that residents are taken to a shelter.
