Pavement parking continually seen outside flagship new Woolwich council homes
In the past year Greenwich Council have made a big thing about building new homes. And rightfully so, as many are good design and much needed.
The homes were lauded as low energy and car-free. One problem – cars are parking on paving outside some sites to almost no enforcement.
Residents have reported it many times. Enforcement is rarely ever seen. It keeps happening.
I wrote this on 23rd November. On 24th Greenwich Council replied to a resident to say they went around and talked to a resident. I presume no fine? Let’s see how long it lasts.
The philosophy of going green and energy efficient housing is hampered if a complete mess is made of parking enforcement in some areas. People will simply drive instead of walking when getting about is full of obstructions. Where they don’t have that option, pedestrians are forced into using the road. Those in wheelchairs and parents with buggies are impacted greatly.
One possible reason for no fine if it wasn’t issued – and barely any enforcement – that this area could be part of the disastrous outsourced Wings Security contract which permits a free for all in many areas.

Another day another example of action from the council directly ignoring all the things they claim.
This is common all over the place. they NEVER do anything. The tweets show how this person is ignored as we all are. Greenwich claim they are short of cash why not actually fine to selfish people doing this…..

As part of my exercise today I walked from Shooters Hill to Bexleyheath. As soon as I crossed the border into Bexley I was amazed to see parking wardens everywhere with tickets being issued.
An untaxed car covered in stickers offering to buy cars was parked near Danson Park. Caught the bus back to see it being lifted and heading to the scrapyard.
Quite a difference.
Different priorities for different authorities. I’m having a long-running dispute with Bexley council, which is far from being perfect. To empty the bins they employ Serco, who habitually leave pavements completely impassable after collections because they refuse to return bins from the point of collection and just leave them anywhere. Bexley council can’t be bothered to raise a finger to stop them.
Richard Cornell the Head of Enforcement for Greenwich Council just doesn’t care.
I’ve raised similar issues to our councillor who raised them to him and he just fobbed them off with lies even when they reminded them of the money they would be losing out on for lack or enforcement.
The parking wardens don’t seem to care either which is surprising as you’d think they’d be incentivised to hand out fines.
Bexley is brilliant,infringements on parking are swiftly dealt with by issuing a fine, & the litter wardens are also on the case, I hope they’re on unlimited performance pay, & continue the excellent work.
