Sidcup cinema & library construction to commence January 2021

Plans for a new cinema and library in Sidcup are due to start in January 2021.

The site formerly housed Blockbuster on a corner plot. I took these photos last year as demolition was completing.

Taken in 2019

This isn’t obviously the best time to start a cinema, but hopefully some sort of normality returns by the time work is complete.

Cinema render

Really Local Group will operate the cinema with three screens. Shops and nine flats are also planned.

The site is narrow and elongated, with flats located to the rear.

Library

The library is part way down the building, behind the cinema entrance.

Work is expected to complete by 2022.

I've lived in south east London most of my life growing up in Greenwich borough and working in the area for many years. The site has contributors on occasion and we cover many different topics. Living and working in the area offers an insight into what is happening locally.

  • The question I ask myself with any Community Service is accessability…….most people have cars….so Car Parking is important…are there lots of local buses day and night stopping close by…..
Is the Venue close to restaurants and a variety of eating places…will there be toilet facilities….a library you often borrow a few books and most people do not want to walk far…all these details cross my mind….

  • Roy Sidcup is quiet well served by buses including routes 51,160, 229, 269, 286, 321 492 and B14 to name a few. Not sure where they all stop in relation to the new cinema though. Although most run close to the High Street.

Good to hear construction will be starting in the new year. I just hope by next year we will be returning to some normality.

    • Construction has already started. There is a large car park nearby at Morrisons
