Woolwich shop to have licence reviewed after child sells alcohol

An off-license in Woolwich is to have its licence reviewed after a 12 year old was found selling alcohol.

Police have asked for the review into Blessing Snacks (aka CB Food Stores) on Frances St after a visit on 10th August 2020 found that licence conditions were broken. The report states: “Minor breaches were discovered and police returned the next day with an information pack containing, principally, a refusals register, training logs and “Challenge 25” posters, as well as other paraphernalia designed to assist the licensee, Blessing Chinyere Eugen.”

The report continues “she was absent, with only her children in the premises. During an ensuing 15-minute observation, officers witnessed the eldest child, a boy aged 12 years, make an over-the-counter sale of alcohol to an adult customer”.

Police returned later that night and the licensee was there, though two children were also behind the counter.

The licence holder has not provided a formal response to the review.

A decision will be made next week.

  • I was shocked when I read this article to be honest.

I think the Office Licence license should be removed from the licensee. Leaving a 12 year old and a younger child in charge of the shop even for a few minutes let alone 15 minutes is not good at all. Especially where alcohol and cigarettes are kept on the premises.

Children’s safety must be paramount at all times.

  • I totally agree what the hell was she thinking off. Sorry she deserves to lose her license.

It does not bear to think about what else could have happen while the children were in the shop on their own.

She needs to employ another responsible adult. to take care of the shop if she cannot be there.
