Eltham accident: Road closed and air ambulance in area
An accident on Well Hall Road in Eltham today (23rd May) has seen roads partly closed, buses diverted and an air ambulance reported.
A motorcycle hit a pedestrian in her 70s leaving her in a serious condition.
The accident is reported to be beside shops just south of Shooters Hill. Bus routes 122 and 161 are affected.
Avoid the area if possible.
How awful I hope the lady will be make a full recovery.
Walked past the scene afterwards. The lady was on her side and not moving. The motorcyclist had stopped around 30 yards after where she was laying. Detained by a police officer. He had probably come off the bike. Hurt his arm/shoulder but able to walk back to the scene.Lots of Police attending. Heard the air ambulance as I walked on.
The biker has been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving on his superbike.
The woman was in her 70s and was treated at the scene for head, arm and leg injuries and taken to a major trauma centre in London. A report suggests she is fighting for her life.
Lots of people are speeding on this stretch of the South Circular.
Chris L. You are so right about the speeding on the South Ciricular, Well Hall Road, Westhorne Avenue and even along Rochester Way.
Speed limits traffic lights, pelican crossings, Zebra crossings etc are there for a reason and need to be adhered too whoever you are !!.
More needs to be done to improve road safety in the Borough of Greenwich,
Unfortunately due to the clear roads, there are too many drivers who think it’s a green light to race/speed on the roads.
It’s not the council’s area in my opinion to deal with this but traffic police is needed on the problem areas.
It’s just the poor driving standards of the people – not just speeding, but tailgating, late second braking/slowing down, just general aggressive driving etc.
You are so right HK in what you say. The standard of driivng is getting so bad while the roads have been quiter.
Although to be fair even before lockdown I saw an increase in the anount of drivers ignoring red lights including minicab drivers failing to stop and driving right threw the red lights.
I began to wonder if more drivers are driivng while taking illeagal substances or do not hold full driving licences,
But the standard of driving as clearly dropped of late.
Unfortunately I feel you are not wrong.
Driving standards have been terrible long before the lockdown.
I don’ know if more people are driving under the influence, I think the vast majority are just impatient and think they own the road – nobody else matters!
Trades people & minicabs are always rushing to make their next £, young people like to show off to heir friends/passengers so they speed, tailgate, not looking before manouvering, jumping red lights etc
It’s really bad and I find that it’s noticeable on the same spots – Traffic police should tackle these hot spots regularly until these drivers know better.
