Ikea to close Greenwich store (and all others)

Well it’s hardly a surprise but one of the biggest retail names that still remains open have announced they are closing all UK shops.

Ikea have stated in the past hour:

“These are extraordinary times & our absolute priority is to ensure the health & safety of our customers & co-workers. As a precautionary measure against the ongoing risk of COVID-19, we will temporarily close all UK & Ireland stores to customers on 20th March, 6pm.”

A full statement can be seen here. There is no word on when they will reopen.

I've lived in south east London most of my life growing up in Greenwich borough and working in the area for many years. The site has contributors on occasion and we cover many different topics. Living and working in the area offers an insight into what is happening locally.

  • It will be easier for stores for non food stores to close. As I am guessing you can still order from IKEA on line. I think other larger non food stores like DIY stores may follow suite over the next few weeks as we fight to slow the spread of the coronavirus.

The quicker we can do this than do this is better for all concerned. So please listen to Public Health England and Government advice.

It will be easier for non food stores to close unlike larger food stores and supermarkets
