Jubilee Line changes: More trains to run through North Greenwich to Stratford

The Jubilee Line timetable is to be shaken up on 23rd March as a number of westbound peak trains currently starting journeys from North Greenwich will instead commence further up the line at Stratford.

En route to North Greenwich station

It’s bad news for those boarding at North Greenwich and heading to central London, as the chance of getting a seat drops to almost zero. Good news for those in Stratford as frequencies on the Stratford to North Greenwich stretch increase from 24 trains per hour to 30.

Canning Town and West Ham also benefit. I recently wrote a post looking at vast housebuilding around Canning Town.

Sadiq Khan scrapped plans for additional trains for the Jubilee Line in 2017.

Stratford is also seeing exponential growth in housing and office space. Delays to Crossrail have ensured that alleviating the Jubilee Line is still some way off.

New builds in Stratford

Work has commenced on a 3,800-home development from Berkeley Homes and Peabody near West Ham station, though if Crossrail hasn’t opened by the time homes complete on that site they’ll be serious trouble.

I've lived in south east London most of my life growing up in Greenwich borough and working in the area for many years. The site has contributors on occasion and we cover many different topics. Living and working in the area offers an insight into what is happening locally.

  • Excellent news for those boarding the additional trains at Stratford and stations before North Greenwich Station heading towards Central London.

But not so goods news for commuters boading at North Greenwich Station who will still have to suffer standing on over crowded trains.

The public transport infrastructure really does need major investment taking in to account the amount of new homes already constructed, new homes currently under construction and the thousands of new homes in the planning for the Borough of Greenwich,

Our public transport infrastructure is already heavily over crowded.

  • This can only be described as a total disaster for my commute. Being able to get one of those trains that start at North Greenwich is amazing.

  • I agree Greenwich Park Fan it will be a disaster for yourself and many many other commuters travelling from North Greenwich Station.

  • I rely on these trains as a wheelchair user who can’t just cram on in a tiny space. But also I’ve spoken to numerous people on these trains who drive a considerable distance to NG because they have to have a seat. I wonder if TfL did an Equalities Impact Assessment?
