Greenwich road closures as huge sections of super sewer tunnelling equipment to be transported

Parts of a new tunnelling machine for the Thames Tideway “super sewer” which have arrived at Greenwich Peninsula in recent months are to be moved by road to Deptford this weekend.

Work at east Greenwich junction for this weekend’s tunnel equipment movement

Many roadworks in Greenwich over recent weeks have been in preparation for the move. Work included removing street furniture and junction work to permit movement.

The section will be transported from 10pm this Saturday until 9am on Sunday. Road closures will be in operation.

The Thames Tideway project will see 25 kilometres of sewers built at a cost of £5 billion. Two major work sites are situated either side of Deptford Creek.

I've lived in south east London most of my life growing up in Greenwich borough and working in the area for many years. The site has contributors on occasion and we cover many different topics. Living and working in the area offers an insight into what is happening locally.

  • Until 0900 Sunday? That’s the buses buggered. And no trains on Sunday either!

  • A set of lights wasn’t working today, but it was mid-morning so not too bad. The junction and railings have been reinstated, by the way.
