Revised Woolwich Spray Street plans to be revealed later this month

A public consultation later this month will shed light on revisions to a major development in Woolwich at Spray Street that saw 750 homes, a cinema and shops before the listing of the covered market put plans on hold.

Listed

Picturehouse have already been announced as the cinema chain opening at the development from developer St Modwen.

Plans for Woolwich Exchange, as it’s now known, will be on show in General Gordon Square from:

  • 3pm-8pm on Friday 28 February 2020
  • 10am-4pm on Saturday 29 February 2020

I wasn’t a great fan of previous massing with some pretty drab towers right up against the street edge. Blocks set back form the plot edge would create less of a canyon effect.

Another large development is planned almost over the road. I had a look this week at newly revised plans to increase housing above the eastern Crossrail station box to 515 units.

I've lived in south east London most of my life growing up in Greenwich borough and working in the area for many years. The site has contributors on occasion and we cover many different topics. Living and working in the area offers an insight into what is happening locally.

  • The Spray Street area of Woolwich is in need of regeneration and upgrading. The new cinema will be a welcome addition to Woolwich Town Centre.

I am hoping the cinema along with the new homes and shops will help to improve the evening and weekend economy in Woolwich and creat some jobs for local people.

Hopefully it will also help to improve the area generally and stop Woolwich becoming a no go area at night. Which it as become of late due to on going anti social behavior.

  • Agree with all these comments. Such a contrast between the two sides of Plumstead road at the moment. This development is much needed and open up Woolwich town center. Currently this is a prime area which has been left to rot.

  • Totally agree with all of the comments above. I cannot wait for the redevelopment of Spray Street to start. This area is in desperate need of redevelopment and regeneration.

The area as be allowed to go in to constant decline with a lot of the anti social behaviour issues not being tackled by Greenwich Council.

  • I do not agree with knocking down the characterful buildings and replacing them with glamorous boxes but they really need to clean up the area. In terms of cleanliness the area is one step above a dump site and getting worse. It’s not the most inviting place to buy food and it’s never has been. Even before the Spray street development was announced, the current owners had years to improve the area and maintain their buildings. They did nothing,so any improvements suggested from the developers warrants serious consideration.

  • Disappointed this part of the problem. The owners have not maintained their properties and many fall in to a state of disrepair.

I agree old and new buildings can work well on new developments if the older character buildings are cleaned and refurbished and then well maintained in side and out.

Sadly this has not happended for years and years now and I cannnot see the owners maintaining them in the future if I am honest.
