A number of Greenwich roads to be closed today

A number of roads will be closed until 5:30pm today due to a Government summit held in Greenwich.

The event will see roads closed including Millennium Way, Edmond Halley Way, Tunnel Avenue, Ordnance Crescent, Waterview Drive and Meridian Gate.

It’s part of a meeting involving Boris Johnson and a number of African leaders.

According to a press release out today:

“The UK Prime Minister will meet the 16 African leaders attending the Summit including President Sisi of Egypt, President Kenyatta of Kenya, President Buhari of Nigeria, President Akufo-Addo of Ghana and President Kagame of Rwanda, and African business leaders including CEO of Standard Bank Gert Vogel and CEO of Investec Hendrik Du Toit. He will also meet prominent UK business leaders including the CEO of Vodafone Nick Read, CEO of BP Bernard Looney, CEO of Standard Life Aberdeen Keith Skeoch, CEO G4S Ashley Martin Almanza, CEO of Associated British Foods George Weston, and CEO of the London Stock Exchange Group David Schwimmer.”

I've lived in south east London most of my life growing up in Greenwich borough and working in the area for many years. The site has contributors on occasion and we cover many different topics. Living and working in the area offers an insight into what is happening locally.

  • This will bring chaos to other local roads around Greenwich when these road closures take place at 5.30 pm at the height of the evening rush hour. When people are trying to get home from work.

Greenwich suffers from very heavy traffic at the best of times adding to journey times.
