William Hill shuts in Bexleyheath – new restaurant/takeaway planned

Plans have been submitted to convert a recently closed William Hill branch on the Broadway in Bexleyheath into a takeaway / restaurant.

William Hill vacated their unit in October this year after opening when gambling laws were relaxed in 2005. That saw a large increase of gambling shops across the UK. Councils were almost powerless to prevent them opening.

However, changes this year have seen many bookies closing as Fixed Odds Betting Terminals – a major money-spinner – saw caps introduced in April on how much could be gambled at a time. It’s now £2 rather than £100.

There is not mention of who will operate the restaurant / takeaway. Having looked at plans the site looks similar in layout to a takeaway with a counter to order – though the site would include around 8 tables so perhaps a bit of a hybrid as often seen. They do not intend to do deliveries.

I've lived in south east London most of my life growing up in Greenwich borough and working in the area for many years. The site has contributors on occasion and we cover many different topics. Living and working in the area offers an insight into what is happening locally.

  • I would like to see a decent fish and chip shop on this site if it becomes a takeaway. Ideal next to a pub.

    • Do you recommend a good fish and chip shop in Charlton /Westcombe Park or the surrounding areas? I’ve not had a good bit of fish in around a decade or more

    • The Tom Bells Fish and Chips opposite WHSmith is decent in Bexleyheath.

If you haven’t tried it already?

      • No but if its worth the trip I don’t mind trying it Thank you for the recommendation 🙂
