Woolwich office-to residential conversion nears completion
Last week I covered the towers now rising on the old Waterfront leisure centre car park though there’s another smaller housing block underway in the area.
This project sees a 1980s office block stripped down and rebuilt.
When complete there will be 28 flats. Permitted development rights allow developers to avoid planning permission and minimum room size standards – though that is only if the exterior is largely left intact.
Given the widespread nature of this rebuild that does not apply. two additional floors are also being added.
We’ll need to wait until complete to make final comment but the drab colour scheme on proposals wasn’t great.
The reason for drab grey across the facade? Apparently because it’s evocative of warships. I kid you not.

It’s a shame Greenwich Council never thought of the same thing before selling off Riverside House to Private developers. A workable solution to convert a office block to residential use. Creating 1/2 bed apartments, for the use of the homeless in the Borough.
Greenwich council doesn’t want to tackle the homelessness problem in any meaningful way and selling off council land ensures that it can never do so.
