Car overturns closing Plumstead street

A car overturned this afternoon closing Lakedale Road in Plumstead.

The vehicle was pictured on its side near the junction with Brewery Road. According to witnesses it hit another car and the driver ran off.

Recovery have managed to get the car the right way up.

The area is pretty notorious for bad parking leading to blind corners and dangerous crossings for pedestrians. Add a badly driven car (according to witnesses) into the mix and this is the result.

I've lived in south east London most of my life growing up in Greenwich borough and working in the area for many years. The site has contributors on occasion and we cover many different topics. Living and working in the area offers an insight into what is happening locally.

  • The stretch between the station and Woolwich College is the worst part I find. I suspect that nobody in the council wants to be seen actively taking measures in case its construed as being prejudiced (either against the prayergoers at the mosque or the local Somali/Nigerians who frequent the coffee shops and stores along there). I’ve been to the mosque on a Friday and it’s utter chaos – there’s simply no room in the surrounding streets to hold two hundred odd people, many of whom need to use the local bus stop and put up with the idiots who double park or cut across the buses. Again, the only courage the council demonstrates is in enriching itself.

That is not a vaiid reason for not doing anything. However, Greenwich council is reluctant to take any action in all sorts of situation.

  • Totally agree with your comments Charles. The council their staff and contractors are meant to be in partial when dealing with these issues and treat everyone the same. Sadly this does not always happen.
