TfL permanently closing Woolwich DLR entrance?
In recent weeks there’s been complaints that the DLR entrance facing Powis Street has often been closed and word reaches me today that it could have now been permanently closed by TfL.
This entrance opens directly onto the heart of Woolwich’s shopping area on Powis Street and near both General Gordon and Beresford Squares.
Woolwich’s shops are struggling as it is, and if this closure is permanent that will hit passing footfall. Ironically it comes just days after Woolwich was named as town that can bid for part of a £1 billion fund to boost struggling High Streets.
Closing this entrance will force all passengers to use the entrance/exit beside Woolwich Arsenal Southeastern station.
Another issues raised by users is what happens in an emergency with one exit blocked.
There was service disruption this morning which does lead to restricted access, but it has occurred on other occasions recently.
TfL have been contacted for comment.
I thought it was closed temporarily due to escalator works.
Closing this entrance permanently will do nothing to help the regneration of Woolwich Town Centre. Businesses will loose a lot of passing trade.
I do not think this could ever be true. It is THE opening towards the struggling high street area. It would not only kill the shops but also ‘attrackt the local sewer rats’ as it would create an non supervised area
