New Greenwich elevated walkway and public space to open 5th July

A new raised walkway winding its way from the o2 in Greenwich is set to open on 5th July.

I’ve been covering progress for a few years and looked at the site a few months ago. It now appears to be rebranded as “The Tide” from P5K.

To celebrate the opening a two week Turning Tides festival is planned including live music, art and film showings. Former Supergrass frontman Gaz Coombes will play.

Design district opens 2019

Shortly afterwards the area will see a new music and events site for up to 10,000 people named Magazine opens on 1st September, and the Design District and market is also due this year.

While these are all positive developments for the area, new home building seems to have come to a halt. Upper Riverside is about it for now with nothing breaking ground recently to follow those towers. Instead, some parts of the area will see new car and coach parks constructed due to Silvertown Tunnel work.

I've lived in south east London most of my life growing up in Greenwich borough and working in the area for many years. The site has contributors on occasion and we cover many different topics. Living and working in the area offers an insight into what is happening locally.

  • Apparently this’ll be “London’s first-ever riverside linear park”.

    Who writes these lies?

    • Amazing. The kind of nonsensical description that causes eyes to glaze over half way through

  • Where does it go? Has it a purpose? Did I contribute to its cost?

    • You did not. It’s entirely private funded.

The purpose is a 5k running/walking loop with parks, shops and greenery along the way. The area pictured in the main image juts off the loop to offer views over the Thames.

  • What’s the likelihood that all this development in the North Greenwich (Peninsula) area will have a knock on effect in the Charlton area rental wise? I’m worried from a personal point of view I’ll soon be priced out of the area with all this popping up – curious to what you think about it

    • Prices are dropping quite a bit on the Peninsula. Little impact beyond it seems. Stagnant really.

  • Is the walkway open yet ?
