Climate protestors scale DLR train to stop services
Climate Rebellion protesters have jumped onto a DLR train at Canary Wharf station to halt services.
They warned yesterday they would take action on public transport today.
It may seem very odd for climate protesters to halt public transport rather than roads. It’s certainly a way to alienate some who would be inclined to support them.
Close to the protest site is the Blackwall Tunnel, where approval was given for the Silvertown Tunnel to be built alongside raising concerns over extra traffic and induced congestion. How public transport is a more suitable location than, say there, is curious. It’s not even a matter of publicity – as other options would gather just as much.
If the aim is to disrupt a centre of financial services are there more effective spots nearby that would do similar, and raise just as much publicity without affecting public transport, better options?
I support their actions on roads but this looks like a big PR mis-step to me. If the aim is maximum disruption as I’ve just seen on the news even more reason to target places like the Blackwall Tunnel. It’d snare up half of London (as it often does even without much happening) and gain loads of publicity.
Hmmm I support green issues strongly but the whole thing seems very white and very middle class.
Targets seem to be places the white middle class tend to go. They need to spread support among more of society and I’m not sure their strategy is great.
Probably same bunch of white middle class lot that stopped City airport a while back claiming pollution is racist
