Just heard a big bang? It’s Dartford power station demolition

If you heard a massive bang around 10 minutes ago don’t worry it’s a long-planned controlled demolition of part of Littlebrook power station’s destruction in Dartford.

The power station shut down in recent years and a turbine hall has been demolished tonight.

Why at night? Possibly as it required traffic on the Dartford Crossing to be managed to prevent drivers being spooked.

The power station opened in the 1930s and utilised oil and coal. It was closed in March 2015 with power station D, opened in 1981, the last to close.

Thanks for letting us know. I did wonder what it was – it was loud even here in Belvedere. Perhaps a curiosity walk along the Thames is now called for.
