Police look for man who robbed mum with baby in Greenwich

Police are looking for help tracing a man who stole a mobile phone off a mother walking her baby in a pram in Greenwich.

The incident happened on Victory Parade on the New Capital Quay development. The man was wearing a red backpack.

The still images aren’t the best so watch the video (which is slightly better)

If you have any info call police on 101.

I've lived in south east London most of my life growing up in Greenwich borough and working in the area for many years. The site has contributors on occasion and we cover many different topics. Living and working in the area offers an insight into what is happening locally.

  • I hope the culprit is caught. Robbing a lady with a baby in a pram. How cowardly is that?

This type of street crime is becoming all to common now days, Sometimes these crimes are committed by opportunist but more often by organised gangs. Similar to what we have seen on the BBC programme about Oxford Street,

I would like to remind everyone to please keep your mobile phones and other valuables safe when out and about.

    • A few days ago I left Moorfields Hospital and a very alert officer advised me to put my phone away until I had boarded the bus. The reason was that the moped gangs knew full well that anyone stumbling out of an eye hospital would still be suffering from the effects of dilatory drops and stunned, especially in bright sunshine. I thanked him and left feeling a bit foolish.

The difference here is that there was a police patrol, and one with the local knowledge to be where the perpetrators would be. Even if police aren’t available, an area such as the riverside is an ideal hotspot for scum to target vulnerable people. Long stretches to run, cut-throughs to the estate and a general populace who’d rather film it than try to assist. The lack of a physical presence of any kind of patrol is symptomatic of a Council that cares nothing for the safety of its citizens. Ask any mother trying to push a pram around Asda or IKEA or the cyclists brave/foolish enough to risk the 102 flyover on Woolwich Road.

In the meantime, all you can do indeed is to remind yourself to be vigilant and remember the times we live in

  • You make some very good points Charles. Another thing I have notice about the New Capital Quay development the street lighting design makes the street lighting quiet dark and the lamp post are quiet low, The area could do with new brighter LED lighting as there are a lot of long paths and cut throughs around New Capital Quay.

  • The lighting and street spacing at New Capital Quay is far better than the Meridian estate beside/behind it.

Now that’s a place you really wouldnt want to walk through after dark
