Full Thameslink Woolwich line service to be introduced in May – one year late

On May 19th a full weekly Thameslink service is finally introduced on the Woolwich and Greenwich line after a year of issues.

Last May a service was launched and quickly fell apart – as predicted on this site many months before. Drivers were warning and writing in stating nowhere near enough were trained. Come the failure and Transport Secretary Chris Grayling and Thameslink claimed no one saw it coming.

New trains

Eventually just one train an hour went into service off-peak with two in the peaks. Fast forward six months and they managed to get to original plans of two trains per hour on the Greenwich line slotting between Southeastern trains – but on weekdays only.

And now, finally, after one year delay we will see a two train per hour service running seven days a week.

Stations between Westcombe Park and Deptford bore the brunt of that failure. Six Southeastern trains previously ran per hour. With that reduced to four Thameslink meant longer gaps appeared in the timetable.

  • Failing Grayling strikes again.

  • That’s true Jim ! Finally we are to get the full Thameslink timetable on the Woolwich and Greenwich Line from May 2019. However,

I still think the cuts to trains on the Woolwich and Greenwich line terminating at Charing Cross have affected a lot of people trying to get to the West End.Now we have bus service cuts planned for the 53. Plumstead Station to Whitehall (Horseguards). After already seeing cuts to the frequency on the 53 night service introduced.

The Elizabeth Line now delayed to 2020 at the earliest. It seems the residents of Woolwich and Greenwich are getting a raw deal when it comes to public transport at the moment,

  • When will Thameslink realise that a stopping service isn’t suitable for Medway commuters? They should fix this by axing a few stations
