Revealed: Ikea car parking rules for new Greenwich store

Ikea have just submitted car park plans on the eve of their new Greenwich store opening.

Firstly, customers can park for up to five hours for free in the 1017-space car park. That’s no different to existing rules and will surprise some as it was expected that increased traffic may see restrictions tightened.

There are 46 disabled parking bays and 24 parent and toddler bays.

If shoppers overstay they are fined £70 (or £42 if paid within two weeks)

However it will not be that strictly enforced. Shoppers can overstay once and only on the second occasion will they be fined. Will some then do so anyway on the first trip?

The planning document states:

14. Vehicles that overstay will subsequently receive a warning letter through the post informing them that they have exceeded the five hour parking restriction.

15. Vehicles that ignore the initial warning letter and subsequently reoffend will be issued with a parking charge notice (PCN) through the post.

Ikea last week increased online delivery costs which could also induce more road traffic.
