Greenwich road changes off to rough start as drivers ignore bus lanes

Changes to the road network in Greenwich including removing the busway have seen confusion and disruption as some drivers appear to be ignoring newly installed bus lanes and bus drivers are unaware of changes.

Council staff have been on site but there are complaints this has done little to alleviate issues on the first days.

Bus users have complained of a bus lane with long gaps heading to North Greenwich and thus slower progress.

The busway was a failed attempt at guided bus lanes. It became a bus-only road directly alongside a normal road. Now the entire layout has converted to something akin to a conventional dual carriageway.

I've lived in south east London most of my life growing up in Greenwich borough and working in the area for many years. The site has contributors on occasion and we cover many different topics. Living and working in the area offers an insight into what is happening locally.

  • I don’t understand why there are long gaps in the bus lane (assuming there are, I haven’t been), I can’t see a need for more than one gap, in both directions, along West Parkside.

  • Drivers sometimes pull into bus lane gaps then struggle to exit which is holding uses up. Basic design flaws.

With bus cuts slowing them down on the approach to North Greenwich is madness.

    And then comes IKEA.
