Icon outlet shopping centre at the o2 in Greenwich opens for sneak peek today and tomorrow

Mobile users with o2 priority were today allowed a sneak peek inside the new outlet shopping centre years in the making within the o2 at Greenwich Peninsula.

Thousands had a look around today (and the same tomorrow) before the centre opens to all at 10am this Saturday, with live music from midday.

Only around half of the eventual 85 shops are ready – with the rest open by Spring 2019.

Cineworld expansion is also underway.

All visitors on the opening weekend will receive a free glass of prosecco and elderflower fizz.

It’s the latest in a string of new openings on Greenwich Peninsula. Ikea opens in early 2019. Greenwich Peninsula Market and Design District follows soon as well.

In two weeks a vast new school expansion opens at St Mary Magdalene with pupil numbers growing over coming years to 1,650.

And as covered earlier today, a new 4,400 capacity music and entertainment venue separate to the o2 is looking to open for up to 200 events a year on a site near the InterContinental hotel (which is looking to expand).

I've lived in south east London most of my life growing up in Greenwich borough and working in the area for many years. The site has contributors on occasion and we cover many different topics. Living and working in the area offers an insight into what is happening locally.

  • I welcome anything that brings tourists to our town though grimace at how untidy and frankly quite dangerous (for pedestrians) it is outside of the curated areas
