An appeal for help with the site

Hi all,

If you follow me on Twitter you’ve probably seen my regular appeals for donations to help run the site. It’s gone well but it’s still a struggle.

There’s two ways to help – the first is to become a Patron at Patreon.com/TheMurkyDepths.

The next option is one I recently signed up for called Ko-Fi where you can “buy me a coffee” a.k.a donate a sum (thanks to Darryl at 853 for the heads up on both schemes).

From my Flickr page

I’ve had some great feedback and support, though it’s still very tough to find the time and money to continue to devote so much time to writing new posts (I’m aiming for at least one a day and the ability to devote even more time to researching writing and getting out there to photograph and investigate issues) so wrote this quick post on the site.

Without meaning to bring out a sob story, I rent privately and it’s bloody expensive in London and find time and money to run this site. I write the site on an 8 year old  laptop I bought cheaply off ebay which is creaking pretty badly and am not exactly flush with cash!

I write and operate the site as I enjoy it greatly and believe in giving prominence to important stories, whether that be new developments that will have massive impacts in various towns or reporting on pots of money that can help improve the lives of local residents, and just how and where that money is derived and being spent.

I like to think it’s doing a decent job.

Hopefully you enjoy it too, and find it has some community and civic value. If so, please consider donating a small amount at either of my Patreon or Ko-Fi pages.

Thanks

Adverts are far from enough to cover site costs and my rent.

You can support me via Paypal here

Another option is via Patreon by clicking here

You can also buy me a beer/coffee at Ko-fi here

There's also a Facebook page for the site here

Many thanks

J Smith

I've lived in south east London most of my life growing up in Greenwich borough and working in the area for many years. The site has contributors on occasion and we cover many different topics. Living and working in the area offers an insight into what is happening locally.

    • Thanks. I have signed up with them and was hoping to make their conference but personal issues prevented me sadly. I do keep a keen eye on their work

  • I enjoy reading your blog and appreciate the lack of ‘sponsors’. I have made a donation via paypal – you very kindly gave me your account details there – but I am pretty much in the same boat as you – living in London – and with only a small private pension as my sole income. I will do what I can, when I can and hope that more people step up.
