145-home development proposed for Saxon Wharf at Deptford Creek

I can barely keep up with the myriad plans for housing lining Deptford Creek and here’s yet another to add to the mix.

Developers are asking Greenwich Council on the feasibility of a new 16-floor block on Norman Road on what is currently a skip storage depot named Saxon Wharf.

The plans foresee 145 flats and 400 square metres of commercial space. A walkway by the Creek is proposed. It should meet the path by recent developments such as Caledonian Wharf. Only trouble is, they’ve never been open to the public at any stage I’ve passed over the past year.

New footbridge over the creek?

It’ll be interesting to see if previous plans for a new pedestrian footbridge over the Creek to Deptford are eventually included. These were on masterplans about five years ago but as development after development has progressed in the area little has happened.

Architects bptw are behind the design. They have offices directly next to the site at the recently completed Hilton and Caledonian Wharf developments.

Their former office site at the junction of Norman Road and Greenwich High Road recently saw approval for demolition and replacement with a block of flats.

Approved a couple of months back

Despite all these developments – both underway and proposed – there’s many more industrial sites in the area being eyed up.

The planning reference is 17/3318/EIA

I hope you enjoy it and any help to support it continue would be MUCH appreciated. Donations can be made at Patreon.com/themurkydepths

I've lived in south east London most of my life growing up in Greenwich borough and working in the area for many years. The site has contributors on occasion and we cover many different topics. Living and working in the area offers an insight into what is happening locally.

  • Do you know where I would find those master plans? Any idea who is after/what is going to happen to Phoenix Wharf once Thames Water are done drilling their massive hole there?

  • Not entirely sure about Phoenix Wharf though all signs would point towards housing. The only industry left in a decade could well be that are the far north of Norman Road.
