Charlton pub is locally listed
Greenwich Council have added The White Swan pub in Charlton to its local heritage list.
Cllr David Gardner stated the addition today in a tweet:

More than 500 buildings are on the local list in Greenwich borough.
It does however offer far less protection than national listing. Protections are modest at best against future changes.
Other pubs have been demolished after being granted local listing, including the Harrow Inn in Abbey Wood. Around thirteen years after that was demolished, Peabody still oversee a long vacant eyesore after years of ownership.
An application to build a house behind the White Swan in Charlton has already been approved by Greenwich Council’s planning board, with a further application to convert upper floors into two flats rejected.
The pub has sat closed for more than three years.
Unfortunately this means absolutely nothing. Greenwich managed to locally list Wellington House in Eltham and within the same month give permission to demolish it.

I hope someone takes it over and renovates it as a pub. It’s so sad seeing these lovely old pubs closing down. Charlton Village needs a decent old school pub.
