Mass police presence on Eltham High Street

A huge police presence is reported in Eltham after an incident on the High Street this afternoon around 1:40pm.

A woman was reported as injured on Passey Place. A hunt for suspects appears to have seen arrests at Middle Park and a 160 bus was surrounded by police.

The town has been blighted by issues in recent weeks including a large brawl in Marks and Spencer where the security guard was reportedly injured.

I’ve noticed masked people myself on a number of occasions recently and continual reports have been made of muggings and fights.

  • These attacks are getting out of hand. They are needless attacks on innocent people. I hope the poor lady is ok this incident must have badly shaken her up. Eltham never used to be like this. What is happening to our society.

Hope Police have CCTV of the incident so charges can be brought against the culprit.

    • My own recent experience with crime and the law was a sobering one. The CCTV footage quite clearly showed one individual breaking into my home and leaving with a carrier bag filled with the few possessions I have.

Despite the footage being good enough to identify a suspect within the day it was ultimately reduced to a single charge of a stolen wedding ring and watch as this was felt to be the surest means to secure a conviction. The original case was postponed twice and instead of a judge was presented before three Magistrates. The chap was released, and despite the fact it was the CPS who had brought the prosecution, I received two letters from his solicitors which talked of suing for wrongful arrest , distress and compensation.

The police (who supported me through the year it took to get to court) were hamstrung by the CPS and I hear much the same from others who have seen a laundry list of charges reduced to a wasted afternoon in Bromley Magistrates Court. London is becoming a feral city and there appears to be little support for those who still respect the rule of law

  • I am really sorry to hear you have been a victim of crime Charles. The CPS need to do a lot more to support the Police and help them to get the suspects to court and charged for the actual crimes they committed.

What about the stress they caused to you?
