Suspected stabbing on Spray Street in Woolwich

Emergency services raced to the Spray Street area of Woolwich after a suspected stabbing tonight.

The area has seen a number of incidents in recent years. Police tape surrounded an area near the DLR station.

Weapon-related crime saw a huge increase last year in both Woolwich Riverside and Woolwich Common wards but seemed to stabilise in the most recent data.

However, this incident follows a number of others since then.

More as it comes in.

  • Not unexpected or uncommon given the character of the businesses that operate around there after 5-6pm.
    And the clientele they attract.
Par for the course. Sorry for the relatives, but I’d put £10 on it wasn’t someone being mugged, and a gang feud with drugs/money involved.

  • This is terrible these gangs are ruining Woolwich for law abiding people who live and work in the area.

I think now the redevelopment of Spray and for the buildings by the Covered Market cannot come quick enough. The the businesses mentioned by WoolwichRes would be closed down and redeveloped. Their clientele they attract also cause a lot of anti social behaviour around Parry Place. at night.

    • The same was said when Tesco came. The square would be much safer etc. Not working out too well. Many issues near store. Replacing buildings do nothing if root problems aren’t addressed. Nothing to say new builds won’t become run down.

      • These new builds will become the slums of the future. Anything not finished with a fully brick skin is more than asking for trouble.

    • Thinking that an overhaul of the built environment will lead to a change in the lives of these people is a completely naive viewpoint.

  • How surprising a beautiful peaceful place like Woolwich never! this can’t be true. Hopefully the person attacked wasn’t an innocent victim. About time more police on streets less bums on seats. Personally look forward to the day get out of London.

    • I’m afraid to say I don’t think there is any hope of improving Woolwich. I grew up in Woolwich in the 60’s as a kid. It seems to have gone down hill ever since. As someone has already mentioned any new building developments will become the slums of the future for drug dealing gangs to congregate. I’m glad I don’t live there anymore and have sympathy for those that do.

  • Spray Street, and also Hare Street. The first they are going to demolish and build a new [living] area. The second, it needs I think a demolishing and create a lightly area connecing the ‘hidden’ Lidl shop.

I used to go to the Rose pub. The elderly landlord/lady couple lovely and friendly, their daughter (with glasses) extreme tensed and aggressive. Opposite a chippy where I got barked at when I asked if their price I saw online was correct.

Dark and grim, and I fear the lack of maintenance work at the Hare street makes it best to demolish the area. With empty shop unites at the Powis Street it might work for the best relocate option.
