Twenty storey tower on the board by West Silvertown DLR station

Preliminary plans for a 20 floor tower with 260 flats and shop units beside West Silvertown DLR station have been submitted to Newham Council.

As it’s very early there’s very few images to go on.

The proposed site is adjacent to the now scrapped Peruvian Wharf development. That would have seen nearly 1,000 homes constructed.

Scrapped plan for 1,000 homes

Instead, due to obstacles from the Mayor of London developers sold the land and a huge lorry park is now planned.

Three tier lorry park

This makes this an odd site. Why a large lorry park beside a station if we want public transport-orientated development to reduce car use?

And who would want to buy directly next door? The three tier lorry park is also seeing strong opposition from residents who have moved into large new developments in the area over recent years.

Back in 2017 I took a look at developments from Woolwich Arsenal through to Canning Town.

I've lived in south east London most of my life growing up in Greenwich borough and working in the area for many years. The site has contributors on occasion and we cover many different topics. Living and working in the area offers an insight into what is happening locally.
