New electric car charging point coming to Greenwich

Plans are in to install electric rapid charging points outside 11-19 Greenwich High Road for car use.

For those who don’t know, this is near Deptford Bridge DLR station and opposite the Hilton Greenwich hotel.

TfL are behind the plan, which hopes to see 150 installed across London by the end of 2018, and 300 by 2020. It is also related to a scheme to encourage cabbies to go electric, with charging to 80% possible in 20 minutes as opposed to 3-7 hours.

The charging equipment is not located on the footway but on the road to lessen street clutter on narrow paving.

Greenwich currently has around half a dozen charging points though most are in car parks. Click here for a very handy site showing where charging points are located.

I've lived in south east London most of my life growing up in Greenwich borough and working in the area for many years. The site has contributors on occasion and we cover many different topics. Living and working in the area offers an insight into what is happening locally.

  • I’m wondering if this was the outcome of the consultation in the summer. If so, it would have been handy if RBG had informed those who took the time to respond to the consultation … another example of incomplete communication. Where woud we be without FromTheMurkyDepths and other locak bloggers ?
