Police officer stabbed in Ladywell

An off-duty police officer was stabbed yesterday when he attempted to apprehend four moped thieves near Ladywell station.

The officer was from City of London Police and is in a stable condition.

The incident occurred on Malyon Road near the station and shops.

Moped crime has rose hugely in recent years. The Met’s policy of no pursuits for safety reasons except in extreme circumstances (such as helicopter support) has ended up with the exact opposite effect.

The Met have attempted to show they will use other methods such as police motorbikes but it’s a tiny number for a city of over 8 million people.

Another major issue is police officers themselves will not pursue as they feel they have very little legal backing should anything happen and will be prosecuted themselves.

These factors have seen moped thefts and use in other crimes increase in recent years.

I've lived in south east London most of my life growing up in Greenwich borough and working in the area for many years. The site has contributors on occasion and we cover many different topics. Living and working in the area offers an insight into what is happening locally.

  • I hope the chap recovers quickly and is given a commendation for showing real – not online – bravery.
