Stratford flood hits 50 shops in town centre

London Fire Brigade have sent 75 fire fighters to help deal with a major burst water main in the centre of Stratford which has flooded at least 50 shops.

A witness (@FVicter on Twiitter) states that “an enormous pipe has burst and flooded the shopping centre. Water flowing in at one side and out at the other. Loads of firemen & trucks there trying to help. All shops shut and must also be flooded – not going to be cheap”.

The burst water main was first reported at least 17 hours ago but appears to have recently got much worse. This tweet below was from 11:29pm last night – four hours after first reporting:

In a statement the London Fire Brigade said: “The Brigade was called at 9.17am.

“Fire crews from Stratford, Plaistow, Leyton, Poplar, Homerton and surrounding fire stations are at the scene.”

Low water pressure is also affecting residential homes in the area.
