Another stage of 4,300 home Kidbrooke Village development submitted

Berkeley Homes have submitted a planning application for 85 flats in a block at Kidbrooke. This is the final block on Phase 2.

The block comprises 22 x 1 bed, 61 x 2 bed and 2 x 3 bed flats.

Outline planning permission for Phase 3 was given on 24th June 2009 for 600 homes. It’s taken nine years to submit the final detailed reserved matter plan here, meaning that over a decade will have passed since outline approval.

It once again reveals the dangers of allowing huge sites to be developed by one single developer. Plots could have been broken up and sold to different developers, and ideally allow the local authority to build alongside.

At this rate it will be 15-20 years until the site is built out including Phases 5 and 6.

There’s much to commend about the new-builds in Kidbrooke but its taking too long.

Towers and squares

Phase 3 is the section most visible to those in the area as it contains the tallest tower elements of the project. A new square and railway station are also included there.

Kidbrooke Village (as developers like to call it) will eventually comprise 4,763 homes.
